From November 8 to 9, the 10th Conference on Professional Degree Education in International Chinese Language Education was held at GXU. The conference was co-hosted by the School of International Chinese Studies, East China Normal University; the School of Liberal Arts/School of International Chinese Language Education, Guangxi University; the School of International Chinese Language Education, Beijing Normal University; and the Teacher Development Professional Committee of the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching (ISCLT). Xiao Jianzhuang, Vice President of GXU, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

Xiao Jianzhuang extended a warm welcome to the participating experts and scholars on behalf of GXU and introduced GXU’s history and development. He highlighted GXU’s achievements in implementing its international development strategy of “Deepening Engagement with ASEAN, Embracing the World,” including building a series of ASEAN-focused brands, continuously deepening international exchanges and cooperation, and the establishment and talent training efforts of the Master’s degree program in International Chinese Language Education. Xiao Jianzhuang pointed out that the West Campus of GXU is located at the site of the former Nanning Yucai School, which stands as one of the birthplaces of international Chinese language education since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Building on its locational advantages, GXU will undertake the historical mission of engaging with ASEAN countries and enhancing people-to-people bonds, and make its due contributions to “deepening exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and better promoting Chinese culture on the global stage.”
The conference featured a total of 3 sessions of 9 keynote speeches, along with 12 group sessions. Scholars and experts engaged in in-depth discussions centered on the core theme of “Talent Training in Professional Degree Programs on International Chinese Language Education,” aiming to jointly improve the talent training of professional degree programs.
During the event, scholars and experts also visited the exhibition hall at the former site of the original Nanning Yucai School (Vietnamese Central School Zone) and the Heritage Base for Fine Traditional Chinese Culture (Caidiao Opera), gaining an in-depth understanding of GXU’s historical culture.
The conference was attended by representatives from the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for International Chinese Language Education Professional Degree, relevant officials in charge from the organizing bodies, and over 300 experts, scholars, teachers and students from over 60 universities and institutions nationwide, both online and offline.
